Three unmissable events in Aberdeen this summer

6th August 2019

This summer has brought some fantastic events to Aberdeen. There really is something for everyone and to suit any weather. From historical walking tours and art exhibitions to guest DJs and festivals across the city.

To help you narrow them down, we’ve picked our top three unmissable family events happening in and around the city this August.

Countesswells Summer Festival (17th August)

Top of our list is of course the Countesswells Summer Festival. Making its debut on 17th August, this brand-new festival is open to the public and promises to be a whole family affair. Staying true to traditional community vibes, there will be a farmers' market with the best of local food and drink stalls available including Symposium Coffee, So… on Fire, Bannerman Butcher, Louise’s Farm Kitchen and Jaff’s Kitchen. Tuck into some tasty weekend treats and enjoy the live music from local bands amongst the stunning green landscape and water features.

Kids can get their face painted, get creative with some plant pot decorating or get adventurous with the community treasure hunt. Outside of the event’s activities the community has its own playpark, endorsed by Play Scotland, which will keep littles ones amused for hours! Tickets are free and any profits from the festival will go towards the community’s new primary school making for an overall feel good affair!

Techfest (24th – 25th August)

At this festival aspiring young doctors can bring their teddies to the Teddy Bear Hospital to do their own check-ups, motorheads can build their own salt water powered toy racing car and anyone looking for a peaceful corner can try out Yoga science.

Returning to Robert Gordon University from the 24th – 25th August, TechFest’s events are based around all things Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). With an array of crazy activities and an educational twist this is a great day out for the whole family.

Adults and kids alike can learn something new while getting involved with creative and inspiring workshops and demonstrations. No need to pre-book, this year they are 'In for a penny, in for a pound': adults pay £1 and children pay 1p!

Celebrate Aberdeen (24th August)

Celebrate Aberdeen does exactly that. Bringing together charities, third sector and volunteer organisations with the Granite City’s biggest free parade on the 24th of August. Join in the celebration of Aberdeen’s hard-working volunteers by cheering them on as they march together down Union Street.

This city centre festival also hosts the Union Street Mile races. Three separate stints for varying age groups give youngsters the opportunity to take part with kids their own age. Don’t worry, competitive parents can still get involved too with the seniors and veterans’ race!

Chill out after the races at one of the live music and dance spots, dotted across the city centre throughout the weekend, including Bon Accord Roof Gardens, Broad Street and Union Square.
