Creating a new community

20th May 2016

The launch of the new community of Countesswells this weekend is the beginning of an exciting new chapter in the history of Aberdeen and is the result of years of careful planning and design by an expert team.

This is an enormously exciting project for us as we prepare to create the first homes, streets and neighbourhoods. The results of which are going to make a lasting impression on residents and visitors alike in the years to come while making a strategic contribution to the city and region’s housing supply and quality of environment.

Countesswells is a new town, which will have its own distinct identity, offer home styles to suit all ages and will enjoy a unique setting in the countryside while enjoying easy access to Aberdeen city centre – offering the best of rural life and modern amenities.

Creating a sense of place is central to the vision for Countesswells, which is one of the largest new communities planned for the city. Countesswells will set new standards for urban design in the north-east of Scotland, blending traditional values and respect for its location with contemporary style and unrivalled amenities, including extensive green and public spaces.

The quality of its setting has inspired the vision for Countesswells. Throughout the design process, we have taken account of the community’s unique rural setting and the best aspects of traditional architecture in the north-east of Scotland – inspiring contemporary homes set within a carefully planned and high amenity environment.

From the public spaces, streets and lanes and the landscaping and planting through to the design and detailing of the homes, we have considered how each element relates to the others and the overall community effect.

The result will be a community of unique character that reflects the quality of its setting and which is well connected in terms of the relationships between homes, public spaces and amenities and to the city and surrounding countryside. The carefully considered mix of house types and design will further contribute to the sense of a true community of character and quality.

The development of the first neighbourhoods within Countesswells later this year will set the benchmark for design and build quality, creating new homes in a carefully landscaped setting. The first phase of the town, comprising more than 200 homes, will include a variety of house styles for all potential homeowners ranging from first time buyers to families. These will include detached, semi-detached, terraced homes and apartments, all set within the surroundings of public and green spaces, including a square and central park.

This weekend is the beginning of a journey that we look forward to sharing with you as we build the new community of Countesswells.
